Soleful Steps proves that meeting a real need—at the right time—can change everything.

I can’t fully put into words how grateful I am for Soleful Steps. As a community specialist and basketball coach, I spend a great deal of time in and out of schools, and I’ve seen firsthand how the lack of proper footwear or equipment can prevent students from participating in sports. Watching young people sit on the sidelines—not because of ability or effort, but because of limited resources—was a difficult reality to witness.

That changed when I met Eugene Burgess and learned about the mission behind the Soleful Steps Foundation. What immediately stood out was that this work extends far beyond student athletes. Soleful Steps serves veterans, families in need, and members of our unsheltered community, meeting people where they are with dignity and purpose. It was refreshing to see someone walking the right path—taking the high road and helping others take meaningful steps forward.

I am grateful for Eugene’s commitment to service, both in and outside of the community. His leadership and heart for people continue to make a real difference, and Soleful Steps is a powerful example of how one step can truly change lives.
